Prior to joining Storbeck Search, Lois served as Vice President of Search and Consulting Services at CalWest Educators Placement, a California-based search firm focused on fostering equitable and inclusive hiring practices. At CalWest Lois was responsible for overseeing all searches while also leading a portfolio of senior administrative and leadership searches.
Lois also developed a consulting and coaching practice that focuses on the intersections between culture reflection, equity, belonging, and hiring and retention practices in independent schools. She has served as a workshop facilitator and panelist at regional and national conferences that serve independent schools.
Previously, Lois served as Chief Volunteer Engagement Officer for The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, as CEO of the Pittsburgh-based Bethlehem Haven, a homeless services and housing organization for women, and as Community Fund Director at The United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County in Asheville, NC. Early in her career, she led the GRAD Program for First Time Teenage Mothers and worked as a social worker, children’s advocate, and as a community college transfer counselor for first-generation students.
Lois, a native of Zimbabwe who is now based in Pittsburgh, attended boarding school in Zimbabwe, and her children graduated from independent day and boarding schools in the U.S. She firmly believes in the transformational power of education and its ability to change lives. She is most proud of her work as a board member and scholarship coordinator from 2002 to 2019 for The Mufuka Private Foundation, a fund that provides full four-year scholarships to low-income Zimbabwean students to attend Lander University in South Carolina. The fund is now a fully endowed scholarship at Lander University.
Currently, Lois serves on the board of the Education Matters Africa Foundation, which supports the USAP Community School in Zimbabwe, an 11th and 12th grade boarding school that prepares low-income, academically talented students to attend universities and colleges throughout the world.
A lifelong learner, Lois is an avid reader who loves learning about people of African descent from around the world.
